Established in 1964 Awaji Puppet Theatre has inherited the equipment of Yoshida Denjiro-za, which boasts a history of over 260 years, and presents Ningyo Joruri that has been passed down through generations of creativity and ingenuity.
in 1976 AWAJI NINGYÔ JÔRURI has been designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Awaji Puppet Theatre In addition to performing at the permanent theater, we travel domestically and internationally, give lectures to schools, provide guidance to elementary, junior high and high schools, and successor groups of children's groups, and cooperate with traditional puppet theater preservation societies nationwide. We are also actively engaged in activities for the spread and development of Ningyo Joruri.
