あらすじ
越後の武将上杉謙信の娘八重垣姫と甲斐の武将武田信玄の息子勝頼は、足利将軍の仲介で婚約していました。ところが将軍が暗殺され、両家に疑いがかかり、犯人を見つけ出せなかったために、勝頼は切腹を命じられてしまいます。悲しみに暮れる八重垣姫でしたが、死んだのは偽者で、本物の勝頼は花作りに身をやつして生きていたことを知ります。しかし父謙信も、その秘密を知り、勝頼に刺客を差し向けるのでした。八重垣姫はそのことを勝頼に知らせようとしますが、女の足では刺客に追いつけず、諏訪湖は凍っているため船を出すこともできません。そこで奥御殿にまつった諏訪明神の力が宿る兜にお祈りすると、不思議な事に狐が現れます。八重垣姫は兜を手にして、ここかしこに燃え立つ狐火を力に、勝頼のもとへと急ぐのでした。
